Snorkelling until sunset, dinner on the sand and a sky full of stars. A walk through our 24-hour camping and snorkelling trip.
Day trips show you the reef. An overnight trip shows you the islands. Once the day boats have gone home, the Daymaniyat Islands become very quiet: just the sound of the waves, a sunset over the water and more stars than you'll ever see in the city.
Here's what our 24-hour Camping & Snorkelling Trip is like, and how to prepare.
The trip at a glance
- Duration: about 24 hours, departing from Al Mouj Marina
- Included: tent, mat and chair, three meals, sandwiches, fruit and snacks, water, juice and soft drinks, snorkelling gear, kayak and paddle board
- Best for: couples, groups of friends and families with older children who want more than a day trip
A typical 24 hours
Morning — departure. Meet the crew at the marina, load your bags and head out to the islands (about 45 minutes).
Late morning — first snorkel. The captain stops at a snorkelling spot on the way, while the water is at its calmest.
Afternoon — set up camp. The crew sets up camp where camping is permitted. There's time to swim, kayak, paddle board or simply relax in the shade.
Sunset. One of the best moments of the trip: the sun dropping into the sea with the islands in silhouette.
Evening — dinner and stars. Dinner is served at the camp. With no city lights, the night sky is spectacular — bring a camera that can handle long exposures.
Early morning — sunrise. Wake up to a calm sea and soft light. It's the quietest time of day and many guests say it's their favourite.
Morning — last snorkel and return. A final swim, breakfast, and back to the marina.
Exact timings depend on the day's weather, sea conditions and current reserve regulations. The crew will talk you through the plan before departure.
What to bring
We provide the camping equipment and meals. On top of our standard packing list, bring:
- A light sleeping bag or blanket (useful from November to March)
- A change of clothes and a warm layer for the evening
- A torch or headlamp
- Toiletries and any personal medication
- A power bank for your phone
- A small bag for your rubbish — everything goes back with us
Pack soft bags rather than hard suitcases; they're easier to carry on and off the boat.
Good to know
It's a protected reserve. Camping is allowed only where and when the authorities permit it. We follow the rules so the islands stay as beautiful as they are — which means no fires outside the designated area, no collecting shells or coral and leaving the beach exactly as we found it.
Facilities are basic. This is real island camping, not a resort. That's part of the charm.
The weather decides. If the sea isn't safe, we won't go. You'll get the choice of a full refund or a new date — see our cancellation policy.
The best season. Camping is most comfortable from October to April, when evenings are cooler. Summer nights are warm and humid. See the best time to visit.
